Views and Lots of Glass

I love the form on these 60s modern homes, especially ones with lots of glass. I know we’ve featured a few of them lately, but this home has some great features that aren’t so common. For starters, it has a rooftop deck! Secondly, unlike many of these home where we talk about potential and the things you need to rip out to accentuate the cool design elements, this home already has much of that work done. The homeowners have delivered a good start on bringing out the potential. Oh yeah, it has a 3 car garage as well. If you’re a car guy (or gal!) you understand how wonderful that third stall can be.

Let’s start off with the things they’ve done. The best thing (and most expensive) is the bathrooms. They’re a little more contemporary than mid-century, but it’s so nice…SO NICE…to not see faux McTuscan elements here. That’s what I’m used to in 90% of the homes that have “upgrades.” Another big thing in this home is the staircases and railings. These retains its original open-tread design stairs and they have augmented them with a wonderful metal railing system. This isn’t cheap, but it’s really a detail that can make the difference. Fortunately, in this case, someone else has done the work.

I’d like to move outside for a bit. I absolutely love the back side of the this house. It does feel like it’s missing some clerestory windows, but the huge covered area extending from the wall-of-glass family room makes this property. Add in the beautiful view and you can see why this home isn’t just about the architecture but the way the house interacts with its surroundings. The 12,000+ square foot lot means plenty of space to enjoy. Over 2600 square feet means plenty of room inside too. Considering all of the features, this home is a great value in an area most people forget about.
