Orange County sure loves its dogs. Our pups are really important to us and we enjoy spoiling them silly just as much as keeping them healthy. It’s no surprise that there are many excellent dog parks in the area. We’ve listed out the top 7 dog parks in Orange County where you and your dog will be sure to have a fun time!
1. Huntington Dog Beach
100 Goldenwest St. Huntington Beach
Hands down the most well-known and appreciated dog park in Orange County is Huntington Dog Beach. Located at one of the most famous beaches in the world, being the site for the U.S. Open of Surfing every year, Huntington Dog Beach is a special space for man’s best friend. The beach is open from 5:00 am to 10:00 pm every day of the year. Legally dogs must be on leash but the website explains that typically only aggressive unleashed dogs are removed or cited. Most dogs at the beach are left to roam around and make friends. It’s a great atmosphere for dog enthusiasts. Tips from visitors include bringing fresh water for you and your dogs and also spending an early morning at the beach to avoid the crowds and take advantage of free parking before 8am.
2. Irvine Central Bark Dog Park
6405 Oak Canyon Rd. Irvine
At nearly 3 acres the Irvine Central Bark is one of the premier dog parks in Orange County for pups to run and play off-leash. The park is open daily 6:30 am to 10pm, but closed Wednesdays for maintenance. Expect healthy, real turf, doggy water fountains and bowls for refilling, separate small and large dog areas and tennis balls to play with. The park is also handicap friendly. A tip from other visitors: weekdays are relaxed with fewer dogs. Also, be advised that the park is not easy to spot from the road so be sure to drive slowly in order to catch the entrance.
3. Laguna Beach Dog Park
20672 Laguna Canyon Rd. Laguna Beach
If you’re looking for one of the most posh dog parks in Orange County, the Laguna Beach Dog Park is the place to go. This 2-acre park is a beauty. The healthy green grass contrasts beautifully against a backdrop of chaparral and bare rock encrusted canyon walls. The park is open daily from dawn to dusk, but closed Wednesdays for maintenance, as well as during and after rainy days. The park is separated into individual small breed and large breed areas. Parking is along the street and metered from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm daily.
4. La Paws Dog Park in Mission Viejo
25100 Felipe Rd. Mission Viejo
Another gorgeous, highly rated location, La Paws Dog Park is a pristine, must-try park for your pooch. The park features great views of Saddleback Mountain and surrounding foothills along with typical dog park amenities. The 3-acre park features 3 separate areas, 1.5 acres for large dogs, .5 acres for small dogs and .1 acres for single owner use. The dog park was designed for minimal environmental impact and thus has an unpaved parking lot and other environmentally friendly landscaping features. La Paws is open daily 7:00 am to 8:00 pm, but closed Thursdays from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm for maintenance.
5. Olive Hills Dog Park
700 S Nohl Canyon Rd. Anaheim
Located on the east side of Anaheim, Olive Hills Dog Park is a beautiful and popular new facility. The park is open daily from dusk to dawn. The space features ample parking, artificial turf, separated small dog and large dog areas, water fountains, fun agility equipment and lots of rocks and plants to explore. One tip from visitors is that the artificial grass makes it difficult to “fully” clean up dog waste, so come prepared if you can (wet wipes might be in order).
6. Costa Mesa Bark Park
890 Arlington Dr. Costa Mesa
The 2-acre park is located right next to the OC Fair Grounds. Costa Mesa Bark Park features separate small dog and large dog areas, water fountains, lots of shade and ample parking. The park is easy to get to right off the 55 Freeway. The park is open daily 6:00 am to 9:00 pm, but closed Wednesdays for maintenance. Visitors do advise that some owners bring aggressive dogs, so be extra cautious. Besides that it is very popular!
7. Arbor Dog Park
4665 Lampson Ave. Los Alamitos
This park is a favorite in the area due to its spaciousness, plenty of parking, water fountains, waste bags and seats for owners. Arbor Dog Park is a great place to let your pups roam free off-leash and meet other dogs. There is no separated space for small and large dogs. The park is open from dawn to dusk daily, but closed Thursdays from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm for maintenance. Other visitors advise to always keep an eye on your pet, as there is no separation for smaller and larger breeds. In addition, there is no lighting so be ready to head out when the sun sets.
