This Mad Men Modern looks good, but I think it could look great. It’s also located in one of the best spots within one of my favorite “hidden gem” neighborhoods: Park Santiago. Imagine a location where it’s quiet, the homes are beautiful, you have easy access to the 5, 55, and 22 freeways, and it’s still reasonably priced? Welcome to Park Santiago.

This is another one of those homes that 80% of the way there. The exterior has a lot of visual interest (admittedly, the green color might be a little hard to get over). There’s a lot to work with, including the block and wood elements. The right landscape tweaks and colors could really make this house “pop.” (Actually, even I hate when Realtors use that term — what I mean is — this house falls a little flat from the street but has all of the ingredients to be a “honey! stop the car!” stunner).

Inside things get more interesting. The kitchen has been remodeled and while it’s not necessarily what I would have chosen, it still looks very nice and works with the house, rather than against it. Many of the cool little details remain, like the funky room divider by the front door with built-in storage and the fireplace has never been covered. But the real gem, the hidden treasure, the raison d’etre is the originality of the bathrooms. And they look like they’re in great shape. 99/100, these custom-built floating vanities have 5 coats of white paint on them. Not these — the birch shows through beautifully. Even the tilework looks great. These are the kinds of bathrooms where you update — but sensitively…maybe a new countertop and undermount sink. Maybe new frameless shower doors. But leave the rest — it’s awesome!
