Local Favorite HopScotch Tavern in Fullerton Offers Unique Eats and Drinks
HopScotch Tavern is decidedly the preferred watering hole of the neighborhood. The local favorite is popular for its adventurous eats and vast selection of libations. Food enthusiasts are sure to enjoy the unique flavors and ingredients on the menu.
Popular appetizer choices include the Duck and Black Truffle Poutine, and Mac and Cheese. Off the lunch and dinner menus, Skirt Steak and $2 Taco Tuesday deals are well received. Yelper Sarah K. says “I think I just had the best salad of my life: the summer salad with fresh burrata, heirloom tomatoes and frisée… It was an explosion of fresh flavors. I’m gonna be dreaming about this salad.” From HopScotch Tavern’s Weekend Brunch menu, favorites include the Crème Brûlée French Toast, breakfast Banh Mi and the Captain Crunch pancakes. HopScotch seems to do everything right, even with dessert. Patrons rave about the milk and cookies (we’re not joking) as well as the flourless chocolate cake, which has been described as “every chocolate lovers dream.” HopScotch Tavern receives high marks for its service as well.
We’re not sure about the background of the name for HopScotch but one clever Yelp reviewer by the name of Ruth T. thinks it might be a blending of “Hops” and “Scotch” as a reference to the establishment’s vast selection of beer and whiskey. The restaurant offers a rotating list of 75 draught and bottled craft beer as well as over 125 types of whiskey. Beer and whiskey aficionados from near and far flock to HopScotch for the exceptional selection. The bar serves up unique takes on classics and innovative new drinks that patrons rave over. HopScotch boasts that its bartenders craft cocktails from “premium spirits, house-made fusions, and fresh-squeezed fruits.” Regulars recommend ordering the Dealers Choice at the bar, in which you tell the bartender your liquor of choice and he or she will mix up a tasty cocktail to your liking.
HopScotch is on the Downtown Fullerton pub-crawl path. Night owls stop by for the sumptuous drinks and hip vibe. Be forewarned that it does tend to get a little loud in the place, especially in the evenings. The restaurant features a bar, indoor dining areas, a main patio with umbrellas and heating and even an intimate cigar patio. Happy hour, or “Social Hour” as the restaurant refers to it, is Monday through Friday from 3pm to 6pm.
The building HopScotch calls home has some history to it. The edifice is located in the heart of Fullerton’s historic downtown district and was once the original Pacific Electric Railway Station and is a registered California landmark. The restaurant maintains its industrial meets rustic charm with exposed wood trusses and original cement walls. The bar is made from reclaimed whiskey barrels. These touches lend warmth to the space, inviting patrons to get comfortable and enjoy the experience whole-heartedly.
HopScotch is a unique oasis for locals looking for food and beverages that offer new experiences. Foodies boasting sophisticated palates as well as anyone with an appetite will love this local favorite.
