We love the interior of this home, too (and yes, if you purchase this home, it simply MUST come with that ship model by the front door). And I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea and maybe some of the finishes are looking a little dated. This home was the extensively (pretty much completely) remodeled and reimaged in 1994. And it shows mostly in the color palette. But the hallmark of good design is timelessness and I feel like a lot of the design choices still work today. What makes this home special, above the others, is the attention to detail.
Take something almost silly and insignificant, for example. The side fences. Laguna Beach does not typically offer huge lots with tens of feet between the houses. Fences provide privacy, but they also emphasize how little land you have when you look at the side window and see a fence 5 feet away. This home has frosted glass side fences — genius! (But expensive). And the interior is full of great micro-design. If you are a fan of Susan Osanka’s “Not So Big House” movement, you’ll appreciate the string of clever details that make you think this home has spaces designed for moment — these aren’t big spaces meant to impress others, but spaces designed for specific purposes. The views are maximized from each window and there are nice touches like a master bath with glass block for lower windows and clear glass above to showcase a coastline vista.
Don’t be fooled by the maple — well, maple everything. This home is a stunner that just needs a tiny tweak to its color palette and finish materials.
