Perhaps you have a big family. Maybe you just have a lot of stuff. But the fact is, you’re looking for more space. And you also want style and unique architecture. And a big lot. And good schools. And a pool. The problem is that most architectural homes from the 50s and 60s have style — but their small. And that’s why were seeing a huge resurgence in the popularity of these 60s contemporary homes. They offer all the space you need with a great dose of style.
I’m not saying this house is perfect. And at just under $1.3M, part of me feels like it be. Some of the styling elements are a little baroque (fireplace surround, mantle, kitchen) and these elements looked great in 2004 when “The O.C.” was on the air, but let’s be clear, the time for that has passed and this home has such great bones with a clean lines, why fight it?
So let’s take a minute and focus on the positives. That living room. Tall ceilings. Tons of glass. And exposed beams with tongue-and-groove. It’s my second-favorite room in the house — right after the outdoor area covered under the same roof. It’s the best feature of the house and one that doesn’t just look pretty, it shields the living room from the sun and provides and actual, usable outdoor area. What good is a big lot if you can’t actually do anything with it? I want a place for entertaining and enjoying. The beautiful engineering movable wall ensures the two spaces will always feel connected.
So it’s big. It needs a little bit of a facelift. But what a great house for someone needs more room and isn’t willing to compromise on, well, anything else.
