Normally, these Lake Forest Deane Modern homes are rare to come on the market and in the last few months we’ve had 3. This is the most desirable floorplan (with the huge back wall of glass) and has the 3 car garage, as well. We have had clients wait for MONTHS for one of these homes to come up — and nothing. One thing I love about these homes is that they combine a lot of the “classic” mid-century modern attributes with some of the good things that came out of the late 60s: better systems for plumbing and electric as well as larger sizes for buyers who need more than 1200-1400 square feet.
This home may not show that well in its present state, but I think some unified flooring along with a few key pieces of furniture could transform this home into modern showplace. Some of the common points for disaster in this home have actually been reverted. In the main living area, the slider were replaced with french door. This wouldn’t be my top choice, but it’s much better than the alternative: mullioned french doors or sliders. The backyard here is generously-sized for this neighborhood and the eucalyptus trees provide a lot of privacy. The kitchen isn’t great, but it’s workable.
This home is a GREAT alternative to those who love the stylings of an Eichler home, but need a South Orange County location and a lower price of entry. Everything about this home is workable for someone to move-in, and is ready to be personalized and customized. The price isn’t great, but our market has moved and there might be some flexibility. When you look at the facts: central location, walls of glass, tongue-and-groove vaulted ceilings, architectural fireplace, and good schools…there isn’t a lot of competition in this price range.
