Yup. We’re declaring it. This is just about my favorite kind of house. It’s well-maintained. It has a lot of potential (especially to someone with an eye for the right improvements). It’s good square footage on a big lot (they’re not making any more land!). Oh, and it has a very cool courtyard entry and some neat bespoke details. This is exactly the kind of house that could be amazing — it has all the ingredients. But right now, it lacks that cohesion that a professional designer (or talented amateur!) could bring. What would you do? We’d start with unified flooring throughout to give some consistency to the space, and get furnishings and a consistent design theme. The house has a number of cool details — but the courtyard entry is our favorite. Right now it’s an awkward waypoint on the way into the house — but like an atrium in an Eichler, it could be redefined as an outdoor room.
