The Habitat for Humanity Anaheim OC ReStore is now open for business, selling donated new and gently used home goods and building materials at low prices. Proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity’s charitable initiatives to build affordable homes in Orange County. The store recently completed its relocation from Garden Grove to Anaheim and held its Grand Opening on Saturday, April 26th. I popped by to check out the selection.
There are two Habitat OC ReStores; one in Santa Ana and one in Anaheim. The two shops happen to be excellent locations to discover Mid-Century Modern pieces for your home. I found some great items while at the Anaheim OC ReStore Grand Opening. The store offers décor and fixtures in a variety of styles, from many eras. I kept an eye out for Mid-Century Modern pieces and was not disappointed. I found all sorts of furniture, fixtures and materials that would suit an MCM-styled home. My favorite was a white club chair with slender but stunning chrome legs. Nearby I also found a very sleek white hexagonal side table. The table would have even greater impact painted a robins egg blue and accompanying that charming club chair.
The OC ReStores have a great selection of lighting fixtures, with some unexpected retro finds mixed in. Mid-Century Modern lighting can be expensive whether at retail stores or cheaper online venues such as eBay.com. However, if you know where to look, you can find the perfect lamp or fixture to suit your style. OC ReStores are perfect for scouting out MCM lighting options. I found indoor and outdoor retro pieces to light up any space. The bargain prices sure get shoppers excited.
I stumbled upon two very unique retro-inspired lamps in perfect condition, sitting side by side in the showroom. The pair costs less than $50 together! I also found a sturdy, stylish oil-rubbed bronze outdoor sconce in great condition. Each piece matches Mid-Century Modern style featuring simple, clean lines with a space-age feel.
While hunting on your own, look for lighting fixtures featuring geometric shapes, particularly of globes, rings and hourglasses. Don’t fret if the ever-popular, iconic bubble lamp isn’t for you, as there are a great many different types of Mid-Century Modern lamp styles. Lamps and fixtures of the era incorporate a variety of materials, with an emphasis on natural wood, chrome, and plastic.
